Gettin' Your Soul Swole

Image
Chances are before stumbling upon this blog, you may have recently seen some sort of pop up ad on some fat burning miracle pill or how you can get a six pack in 12 days. Or perhaps you saw a commercial on TV where Shaun T is telling you to get up off your fat bum and get ripped with the Insanity workout. Let's face it man, the world is obsessed with the way we look. It's the reason fitness centers are chock full of sweaty folks trying to sculpt themselves into their fantasy bodies and the reason why Chuck Norris is still on TV, pimping out Total Gym equipment. Everybody wants to be ripped, everyone wants to be toned, everyone wants to be SWOLE . Of course that's not totally a bad thing. It's good to be in peak physical condition. It's good for your overall health and wellness, it keeps you more active and gives you more energy, not to mention it does wonders for a person's self esteem when there's muscles bulging out of them every which way.

I Need Ramadan, I Need it Bad

Image
Can you believe it? The month of Shaban is here which means Ramadan is just around the corner. Now regardless of the fact that Ramadan is one of the most blessed months of the year and how it’s a chance for Muslims to cleanse ourselves of sins and get a spiritual boost, the emotions for its arrival are undoubtedly mixed. Don’t get me wrong, there is a great number of the faithful who are excited for Ramadan and are looking forward to the abundance of good the month contains. However, I’m sure there are folks out there dreading this month. They dread the dropkick their schedules receive, whether it be work/school or their regular eating pattern. They groan at the thought of starving all day, cutting out all the fun shenanigans they occupy themselves with on the daily and spending the nights assembled in the congregation lines at the crowded masajid for Tarawih prayer. The thought of listening to the Imam drone on as they stand with aching feet and full stomachs for an extra lo...

25 Cool Life Hacks for the Average Muslim

Image
Disclaimer: Please take note that this article is mainly for humorous purposes and should be taken lightly though there are some valid and true information in some instances. So, please do not get your halal panties in a bunch over these hacks. You know what I've been loving lately? Life hacks. These have been sweeping the internet recently and I can't get enough of them. For those who don't know what life hacks are they have been defined as a  "productivity trick, shortcut, skill, or novelty method to increase productivity and efficiency, in all walks of life; in other words, anything that solves an everyday problem in a clever or non-obvious way might be called a life hack". There are plenty of life hacks lists posted on the internet which demonstrate a plethora of different neat tricks. For example, using a dustpan to fill a container that doesn't fit in a sink, take a picture of a friend holding something he wants to borrow so you won't...

Back From Blog Hiatus

Surprise, surprise PhilAsify Fans (which I'm sure at this point probably only consists of 3 people, including my wife--on second thought, my wife doesn't regularly read my stuff, so howdy you two!) I'm back with a blog update. I just want to cut to the chase and apologize for the blog drought I put you guys through. It's was unannounced and unexpected and that's because I hadn't planned to have gone this long without updating. The lack of PhilAsify greatness stemmed from a combination of lazy spell that I go through on occasion which superkicked any semblance of productivity and consistency I had with my writing. Luckily, an article I stumbled upon brought me back to reality and brought to attention a lot of the flaws in my repertoire. The article,  15 Excuses Writers Make (That aren't fooling Anyone) , pretty much busted me out directly, pinpointed all the lamebrain excuses I use as a crutch when I go through an unproductive writing slump. It op...

Fajr, the Lazy Killer

Image
I truly respect successful writers, no matter what form. Be it a novel, a textbook, poetry, a Hollywood screenplay or blogging; the ones who are on the grind and churning out writing pieces on the regular deserve all the props you can throw at them. I can only dream of possessing even a small fraction of their productivity. What's their secret to success? Well, I know that . They wake up early and write in the solitude of the early morn while the rest of the world is still catching their Z's. Now naturally, this shouldn't be a problem for me. As a Muslim, it's essentially a must to be early risers because we have to pray the first obligatory prayer of the day, Fajr, right at the break of dawn. Of course for many Muslims, even devout ones, this can be easier said than done. I'm sure a ton of Muslims don't wake up for Fajr and ignore the Adhan (call to prayer) clock and fade back into La-La land (guilty). Then we have another segment who do get up, pray the Fa...

Productivity Tip: Be Lazy Every Now and Then!

Image
Since the inception of this blog, I have been a huge advocate of productivity. I make it a huge point of emphasis to get up and get something done! And this goes not just for all you loyal readers, but mainly for myself. Even though I usually don't want to, in the end it feels good to get off my lazy rear end and accomplish something: read a book, plan out my monthly budget, bust out my sneakers and do a little bit of HIIT training at the gym, catch up on some Islamic knowledge, post something on PhilAsify 101 ;). But there are those certain days when you just gotta chill. When you make that two day weekend a THREE day weekend. Take a day off from work and relaaaaaax. Yes, my productive friends, it's good to have those days where you're just absolutely UNproductive. Where you just break from the norm of keeping that consistent exercise regimen, or writing, planning etc. Go grab that epic cheeseburger you've been avoiding! Go waste a few hours mashing buttons on Xbox Li...
